Clubman's Show at Santa Clara Fairgrounds

This should be interesting, suddenly Blogger decides it needs a 'new' look.
Why, I ask? Because they can I suppose....well let's see if we can figure this out and complete a post. Gotta tell you right now I'm not happy with this 'New Look' Dashboard , or whatever they are calling it. Anyone else run in to this change? My advice is, don't push that 'new look' button...there seems to be no going back to the 'old look'...

The pic above was taken earlier today at the show. Best laid plans of mice and showgoers... Because of conflicts with other things that showed up to do this weekend, I was only able to spend a few hours at the show. Had to run around real quick and try to scope out the swap meet and show, and talk to old friends, which meant I didn't get a whole lot of picture taking accomplished. I'll post what I got.

This is the best pic I got of the Raffle bike. There were so many people getting a closer look at it. It's a very nicely restored 1957 BSA Goldstar some lucky individual scored.

Here is a pic for Bodger. A square barrel 441 Victor.

Here is a pic of a 1967 Victor GP, with a round barrel.

Here is another view of the 67, with a really nice Spitfire 650 Scrambler . Both of these bikes belong to Don Harrel.

A nice Goldstar, not sure of the year.

Don't know if this RGS is original or not, but was very nicely done.

This one was for sale and was looking very perfect.

A view from the left side of the Spitfire and the GP Victor.

A flamed Thompson sidecar. I did an earlier post on Thompson sidecars.

A 1963 Velocette.

A 19?? Rudge.

The outside area...a little wet out here.

An 'off-roader'...

Kane and Phillip (hope I got the names right guys...)
Bought some Triumph Cub parts here.

Kane had a neat B-40 and a 'Grumph'.  Lots of 350 and 250 parts.

A nice cub part I purchased, to go with the Cub frame I bought from him as well.

Here's another view from the main floor. Sorry about the quality and quantity of pics. Had too little time to get pics. It was a good show and swap with a good turn out. Found a few things to buy, and am looking forward to next years. Did get to re-connect with a few people, and met some new contacts...so the weekend wasn't wasted. Gotta tell you I am disgusted with 'Blogger' at the moment...looks like relearning time....

Oh yeah, here's the 'loot'.  A Triumph Cub frame, and a Triumph Cub engine cover to go with a Cub tank and a few other Cub bits kicking around the old shed. Couldn't resist the big-fin Triumph 650 exhaust collars.

  1. Really nice photos of very well restored bikes. Seems strange to us in Britain to see Gold Stars with high bars - here they seem to be having a 'who's got the lowest clipons' competition. Thanks for posting!

    1. Hey Norman. Funny thing about bars on British bikes. While in High School, most of assumed the British bikes we saw here at that time were like what they sold in the home market. In fact, if you'll pardon the expression...a lot of people referred to the high and wide bars as 'limey' or 'English', and low bars as 'European'...ha ha. Of course as we read more in the magazines we became sophisticated and learned the error of our ways...Being tall and possessing ape-like arm length myself, I've always liked 'Western' bars.I always adjusted them so that the positioning mirrored 'clip-ons', but wider and higher. I tried 'Ace bars' on a CB-350 I had built into a Cafe-racer. After I got into a tankslapper on a wet road, I drove home and changed back to my wide Westerns. Eventually I came to like bars that are like the ones that came on the Honda 400 fours for street bikes. Clip-on's look the part, but really aren't so practical for the daily commute. Most bikers seem to prefer the bars where they can obtain their beer, what's known as a pub...

  2. Great pics Larry.

I'm still not a great fan of the high bars, having been around bikes in the UK in my "formative" years so to speak, just used to the lower bars.

Getting Cub parts now? Do I detect another project in the works? Still would like to have a wee Cub. Funnily enough I wanted one way back in the old days. Got a CB250 as it ws available.

Lttery winnings, one day, will be seeing a big shed with a Cub amongst others in it.

  3. Bodger:Maybe- like your Victor, I'll be able to piece one together. I missed out on a 'full-race' Cub, that a shop teacher at our Junior High School use to compete on. Over the years have passed on a few others. Would actually like to do up a Trials cub to go along with my B-40 Trials project.Another one for down the road.

    1. GBC, your comment was stuck in the 'Dashboard'...don't know why...but looks like I unstuck it.
Wish I hadn't missed the Cub-guy that left the swap early!

  5. Oh yeah, I'd like to get a trials Cub as well or even aa trials Bantam. The "old" trials game is something that this old bod would like to dabble in a little just for fun....forget those new trick trials bikes.
